Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate contents of all available mobile application(app)s related to pregnancy, birth, and child care in Korean mobile app markets.

Methods: Ninety two mobile applications from the most common smartphone app stores, which are Goggle Play store for android OS and the Apple Store for iOS, were reviewed by two researchers using a structured measurement. The data
were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

Results: About 65 percent of apps related to pregnancy, birth, and child care had multiple functions such as providing information, social networking diaries, and videos. Information function was the prevalent function. The most common app developer is internet portals(60.9%). The average of information credibility provided by the apps was 2.77 out of 5.
Conclusion: The use of smartphone apps for pregnancy, birth, and child care has increased among women. Therefore, healthcare providers should pay attention to the reliability of the information on apps.
